Wilson Arthur Criticizes Black Stars’ Poor Performance, Believes Samartex and Medeama Could Defeat Sudan

Wilson Arthur, the owner and financial backer of Skyy FC, has urged the Black Stars to focus on selecting dedicated players as the team faces criticism following their recent 2-0 defeat to Sudan in the qualifiers for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

This loss has left Ghana in a disappointing third place in their group, with only two points from four matches, having also suffered a defeat in their opening game against Angola and drawing 1-1 with Niger. Their earlier match against Sudan at the Accra Sports Stadium ended in a goalless stalemate.

In a conversation with Citi Sports, Arthur, who is also the chairman of the FA Cup Committee, voiced his dissatisfaction with the players’ mindset. He asserted that local clubs such as Medeama, Samartex, and Dreams FC could easily triumph over the Sudanese team.

“We need to select players who are genuinely committed. I truly believe that Dreams FC, Medeama SC, and even FC Samartex can beat this Sudanese team,” he stated.

The Black Stars are set to resume their qualification efforts in November, facing off against Niger and Angola. For Ghana to secure a place in the tournament scheduled to be held in Morocco next year, they will need Sudan to lose to both Angola and Niger.
