The Economic Intelligence Unit has been in the business of predicting which political parties are likely to win elections in countries over a period of time.
These predictions, oftentimes, are based on their assessments of situations on the ground and what one would term as the ‘norms’ in these countries.
They also look at the individual presidential candidates when making their assessments. In Ghana, the NDC, has over the years, bastardized reports from the EIU.
Never have they welcomed reports or predictions from the EIU, especially when they go against them. They see their predictions as bogus and without merit since their reports.
EIU is in town with its prediction in favour of the NDC. It, however, came with a caveat; the party should get a new candidate and not the tired limbed, limping and badly battered John Dramani Mahama.
If the NDC can win the 2024 elections, EIU says, it ought to select a new candidate, a candidate other than Mr. Mahama. The party members, the loyalists of Mr. Mahama have begun chanting ‘No Mahama, No Vote’ mantra. Under such a scenario, how can the EIU’s report come to fruition?
It is the more reason deafening silence appears to have greeted the report from the camp of Mr. Mahama. They will stick with him and damn the consequences.
