Contrary to the dictates of good journalistic standards and practices, JoyNews has published a story that does well in its misleading and propagandistic effects than bringing credible information for the consumption of the general public.
In the story published by the media outfit, Ghana is said to have been downgraded by the IMF from a middle income country to a developing one.
This publication was latched onto by the opposition National Democratic Congress as they gleefully attacked the Akufo-Addo administration for running the economy aground.
It is pardonable when media houses who do not command the kind of clout JoyNews boasts of to be publishing such fake stories online, but for a colossus like this Multimedia outfit to have led this demeaning and rather falsified crusade is something that cannot be tenable.
The IMF has said that it has not downgraded Ghana or any other country for that matter since its classification isn’t country-specific. It has emphasized that Ghana hasn’t been downgraded and that news to the contrary should be dismissed as falsehood.
One can question the motives of JoyNews over the publication of this story when there is no iota of evidence to same.
Peddling of falsehoods should not be part of the core mandates of media entities like JoyNews. Honest reportage coupled with accuracy should always be the drive of every media outfit that means well. JoyNews must apologize for this misleading storyline.
