Sekondi High Court Removes Injunction on NDC’s Joana Cudjoe for Amenfi Central

The Sekondi High Court has lifted an injunction that had prevented Joana Gyan Cudjoe, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate for Amenfi Central, from running in the upcoming parliamentary election.

This ruling was delivered on Monday, November 11, 2024, after the case had previously been adjourned, as the NDC requested the court to dismiss the injunction on its candidate and drop the underlying disqualification. His Lordship George K. Gyan-Kontoh presided over the proceedings.

In a prior session, the court had delayed its decision at the request of Edudzie Tamakloe, one of the main lawyers representing Joana Gyan Cudjoe. Tamakloe argued that further postponements could deprive his client of her right to participate in the December 7 parliamentary election.

Justice Gyan-Kontoh agreed to hear the substantive disqualification case, highlighting the need for a swift resolution. He also suggested that both parties consider an out-of-court settlement before the next hearing date. However, efforts to reach such an agreement did not succeed, leading to today’s ruling, which removes the injunction and permits Joana Gyan Cudjoe to continue her candidacy.

With this decision, the legal dispute is now resolved, allowing the NDC candidate to stand for the Amenfi Central seat in the upcoming election.

Speaking to the press following the court’s decision, Joana Gyan Cudjoe expressed her gratitude, saying, “We thank God for everything that has happened today, and especially my new legal team who stepped in to support me. I thank God, all NDC members, executives, and the entire Western region NDC. I must say I am very happy.”
