President Mahama Names COP Yohuno as New IGP

President John Dramani Mahama has relieved Dr. George Akuffo Dampare from his position as Inspector-General of Police (IGP) and has appointed his deputy, Commissioner of Police (COP) Christian Tetteh Yohuno, to take over the role.

This change in leadership was revealed in an official statement from the presidency on Friday, March 13, signed by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the Minister for Government Communications. The statement noted that the appointment was made in accordance with Articles 91 and 202 of the 1992 Constitution, following consultations with the Council of State.

This development signifies a major leadership shift within the Ghana Police Service as the current administration works to implement reforms within key security sectors. COP Yohuno, who brings forty years of experience in law enforcement, steps into the role of IGP during a pivotal time of transformation within the police service.

The statement further expressed the government’s confidence in Yohuno’s leadership, believing he will strengthen the professionalism and security of the nation.
