Parliament has approved the Ghana Boundary Commission Bill, 2023, following its third reading on December 18, 2024. The legislation is expected to significantly improve Ghana’s approach to boundary demarcation and dispute resolution.
Major General Dr. Emmanuel Wekem Kotia, Commissioner General of the Ghana Boundary Commission, expressed confidence in the impact of the new law. He noted that it would give the Commission greater authority to address boundary-related challenges more effectively.
Dr. Kotia further emphasized that the legislation aligns the Commission’s work with international standards while empowering it to introduce social interventions for underprivileged communities living in border regions.
“This bill strengthens our mandate and positions us to better address boundary issues. Ultimately, Ghana stands to benefit as we enhance efforts to resolve these disputes,” Dr. Kotia stated.
The law represents a significant step in Ghana’s commitment to maintaining peace and stability along its borders while also improving the well-being of residents in border areas.
