Johnson Asiedu Nketia waged an extensive and vile campaign against the renomination of Right Hon. Speaker Aaron Mike Oquaye as the Speaker of Parliament.
General Mosquito’s slimy media war against the former Speaker was based on his ill-health. According to him, the former Speaker looked frail and should not be made the Speaker again as the state would be saddled with huge medical bills.
This event happened when a video went viral in which the former Speaker was being helped to get down from his car. His health was used as a campaign tool against him.
Though not too well, there is no evidence to prove that Mike Oquaye Snr indulged in the sort of profligacy we are witnessing with the Right Honourable Speaker Alban Kingsford Sumana Bagbin.
No one prays for Bagbin to fall ill or have his ailment aggravated. The issue is that, the monies being spent on his health are outrageously high and do not make sense. What would Asiedu Nketia say now in relation to his position when Aaron Oquaye was being considered for the position again?
One moral lesson we should all learn from this, especially Asiedu Nketia and his cohorts, is that much as an old tree can fall, a younger one can also fall. Everyone can fall ill irrespective of one’s age.
In future, we should do better and not allow extreme partisanship to blindfold us to be making senseless commentaries about the ill-health of our leaders. US$600,000 is still unconscionably horrifying!
