NDC Lacks Strategy and Tactics, Talks Too Much – Ayikoi Otoo

Former Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Nii Ayikoi Otoo, has criticized the Minority in Parliament, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), for their lack of strategy and tactical approach. According to Otoo, the NDC’s tendency to speak openly about their plans has inadvertently worked against them.

In an interview on Eyewitness News on Friday, October 18, Ayikoi Otoo explained that the NDC’s constant public commentary has allowed the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to counter their moves effectively. He highlighted that the NDC often discusses their intentions in the media before taking any actions in Parliament, thus revealing their plans too early.

“They were on media platforms discussing all these issues, instead of remaining quiet and handling matters within the Chamber,” he stated.

Otoo further commented on the recent developments concerning the Supreme Court’s suspension of the Speaker’s ruling, which declared four Parliamentary seats vacant. He pointed out that the NDC had already begun discussing their plan to remove the four MPs publicly before officially addressing the issue in Parliament. This early disclosure, he argued, gave the NPP the chance to prepare by taking preemptive legal measures, such as filing a court case promptly.

Touching on the public debate regarding the fast-tracked attention given to the case by the Supreme Court, Otoo dismissed criticisms, explaining that it was an “ex parte application” and such arguments were misguided.

Otoo used the opportunity to offer advice to the NDC, stating, “I believe they hurt themselves by speaking too much. Strategy and tactics are essential, but it seems lost on them. They should have kept quiet and focused on their plans rather than alarming the Majority.”

He added, “Instead of creating so much noise about changing laws or removing MPs, they should have quietly proceeded with their goals. When you alarm people, their natural instinct is to protect themselves, and this led the Majority to take the steps they did.”

Ayikoi Otoo concluded by emphasizing the importance of thinking through strategies before taking public action, advising the NDC to avoid excessive commentary that could ultimately undermine their efforts.
