Minority Urges Former Officials to Reject Invitations from ORAL Team

The Minority in Parliament has urged former government officials to decline any invitations from the Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) team, labeling its actions as unconstitutional and in violation of Ghana’s legal framework.

At a press conference on Wednesday, January 15, Suame MP John Darko condemned the operations of ORAL, claiming that its activities interfere with and undermine the work of established state institutions such as the Police Criminal Investigations Department (CID), the Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO), and the Office of the Special Prosecutor. He emphasized that no legitimate country would support such actions.

“Our message to former government officials is simple: refuse any invitation from this so-called ORAL team. We will not engage with or acknowledge its activities, as there are already constitutionally mandated bodies in place to handle any allegations of wrongdoing,” Mr. Darko stated.

He also criticized Dr. Dominic Ayine, the Attorney General nominee, for supporting a group that he believes erodes the authority of constitutional bodies.

The Minority further accused ORAL of overstepping its bounds, alleging that its operatives are engaging in intrusive actions that disrupt the lives of ordinary citizens.

“They are disturbing individuals, entering homes without consent, seizing vehicles, and confiscating lands that have been lawfully acquired. This behavior constitutes harassment, and it must come to an end,” Mr. Darko declared.
