President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has expressed unwavering faith in Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, portraying him as a qualified and well-equipped leader ready to propel Ghana toward remarkable progress.
According to President Akufo-Addo, Dr. Bawumia possesses the expertise and leadership experience required to take the nation to new heights. In contrast, the President criticized former President John Dramani Mahama, branding him as an unsuccessful leader unworthy of a second term in office.
President Akufo-Addo argued that Mahama’s time as president fell short of expectations, and Ghana would be better off under new leadership. He urged Ghanaians to rally behind Dr. Bawumia’s bid for the presidency, citing his vast experience and strategic vision for the country’s development.
Speaking at a meeting with professional groups in Kumasi on Sunday, November 24, the President emphasized the critical role of the Ashanti Region in ensuring an electoral win for the New Patriotic Party (NPP). He stressed the importance of voter turnout and unity in the region to secure victory for the party in the upcoming 2024 elections.
Reflecting on past electoral losses, President Akufo-Addo warned against a repeat of the events of 2008, which saw the NPP lose power. He encouraged the people of Ashanti to throw their full support behind Dr. Bawumia to ensure a decisive victory.
“We have two candidates before us: one is a failed president, and the other is Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia,” Akufo-Addo remarked.
He elaborated on Ghana’s presidential history, mentioning that of the four leaders who have served under the Fourth Republic—Jerry John Rawlings, John Agyekum Kufuor, John Dramani Mahama, and himself—only Mahama was not granted a second term by the electorate.
“The late Jerry John Rawlings served two terms, John Agyekum Kufuor served two terms, and I have also served two terms. The only one who was denied a second term was John Dramani Mahama, and the reason is simple: he performed poorly,” the President stated emphatically.
President Akufo-Addo made it clear that supporting Dr. Bawumia is essential for continuity in governance and the success of the NPP’s vision for Ghana.
