NPP internal elections: Dangerous delay

NPP internal elections: Dangerous delay

The New Patriotic Party has always set the pace for other political parties to follow suit in terms of democratic principles and processes.

Over the years, it has always been the NPP coming up with ideas and implementing same for the National Democratic Congress to follow suit.

The party came up with the reforms needed by the Electoral Commission to improve upon our electoral processes. The concept of an electoral college electing people to represent the party in parliamentary and presidential elections before the NDC adopted same.

Today, what do we see? The story is different. It is not out of place to state that the NPP is a pale shadow of itself looking at the happenings within the party.

The rank and file of the party have demanded an early conference to elect its parliamentary and presidential candidates for the 2024 elections.

After series of meetings held by the National Council, there was no consensus on when the primaries should be held. Till date, party people are in a fix as to when the primaries are to be held.

The NDC has opened its doors for members to file their nominations for their primaries slated for May this year. There seems to be peace in the NDC whereas the NPP has turned chaotic.

The Ntim/Kodua leadership has done very little to ensure that the party goes for an early election.

We at ABCNews would want Chairman Stephen Ntim and General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong to put in much efforts to ensure that the party holds its conference in 2023 and not in 2024.
