Amenfi central DCE must stop pretending to be fighting galamsey in his district – P. K Sarpong

While President Akufo-Addo has committed millions of cedis into the fight against illegal mining across the various mining districts, some people who ought to lead such fights are making the work difficult.

The Amenfi Central District Chief Executive is sitting on the fence while water bodies and lands are being raped by known illegal miners.

This known illegal miner, OB, who is from Asankragwa, has been going about telling people he has the tacit support of the DCE, Patrick Hockson Amponteng, popularly known as PH, and that is how come he is able to undertake mining activities in broad daylight without being questioned or arrested.

His excavators are seen roaming around town after they have completed their illegal activities in the bushes. The DCE sees these but does absolutely nothing about it.

Several towns and villages have been affected by the galamsey activities of this OB gentleman. The affected places include Sekyim,, Yawfori, Dwirigum, Onyinase, Kojo Kumah, Atta ne Atta, etc.

The river bodies affected are Fure River, Supae and Subiri. These water bodies serve the above named communities but due to the activities of OB, these water bodies have been polluted.

People can no longer use water from these water bodies. They have resorted to purchasing sachet water from sellers.

Due to the extreme nature of OB’s mining operations, he has been purchasing sachet water bags and distributing them to some of the people in these communities.

How long can this go on? How effective is his solution to supply the people water after he has destroyed their rivers? The DCE is not oblivious of all these yet for some reasons best known to him, he is looking on while this goes on.
