The General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has stated that calls by the presidential candidate of main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, for an independent audit of the results of the 2020 polls should not be heeded. This, according to John Boadu is because such a call is baseless. While addressing the media in a press conference, Mr. Boadu said;“All of a sudden we are hearing about auditing, where does this place in our political arrangements? Instead of you to do your work by independently collating your results, you are shirking the responsibilities. Where in our democracy does this fit into?”He explained that with the NPP’s wide margin of victory against the NDC, there was no need to argue about the Presidential results.“Nana Akufo-Addo won the elections with a huge margin. It is a huge feat. The difference between the two candidates was 517,231 so the presidential elections were not even close, so there was nothing contentious about it in the first place.” He continued that, “I think it is better for him to come to terms with his loss. He lost by a huge margin and he should just accept it.”Meanwhile, John Mahama in an interview with VOA News monitored by cmonline.com.gh on Tuesday proposed that an independent audit of the results of the elections be done to help settle the controversy surrounding it.According to him, if the independent audit done by the EC is satisfactory, “I’ll be the first to concede and walk away.”Also, the EC Chairperson, Jean Mensa acknowledged that the figures she declared on Wednesday, December 9, 2020,were wrong and subsequentpress releases from the EC also contained some numerical errors. This has caused people to question the credibility of the Electoral Commissions results.
