Assin Central: Kennedy Agyapong Retains Seat, Gets Sixth Term As MP

The Member of Parliament (MP) for the Assin Central Constituency in the Central Region, Mr Kennedy Ohene Agyapong has retained the seat for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) after winning Monday’s poll.

Mr Agyapong polled 19,754 votes to defeat his closest challenger Mr Nurein Shaibu Migyimah of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) who got 14,747 votes. He will be headed back to Parliament for a sixth consecutive four-year term.

The businessman was first elected a member of parliament in 2000 to the seat of Assin North. He retained his seat in the 2004 and 2008 parliamentary elections. In 2012, he was elected in the new seat of Assin Central and was re-elected in 2016.

Presidential poll

The Presidential election also went the way of the NPP but with a better margin of victory. President Akufo-Addo amassed 21,159 to win the constituency with the NDC candidate John Mahama polling 12,650 votes.
