The Venus flytrap, a native plant of the south and north of Carolina is a carnivorous plant notable for its unusual habit of catching and digesting insects and other small animals. The Venus flytrap just like the name suggests, is a “trap plant” made of two hinged lobes at the end of each leaf. On the inner surfaces of the lobes are hair-like projections called trichomes that cause the lobes to snap shut when prey encounters them.

The Ex. President John Dramani Mahama and by extension the NDC is nothing short of a Venus flytrap widely open to prey on its next victim. It is 2020 and we the youth say NO to Venus flytrap politics. The elders say that there cannot be partying in the house of the tortoise and then the hedgehog’s house be used as an easing ground. We cannot call it fairness when baboon is doing the working, but monkey is doing the eating. We have found our darling Nana the showboy and so there is no turning back.

As far as we the youth are concerned, His Excellency Nana Akufo-Addo does not even need to campaign before we can trust him with our votes. To us, the unprecedented achievements of this Nana-led government for the past four years is crystal clear enough a campaign to win our thumbprints; for one good term certainly deserves another.

When it comes to the subject of youth empowerment, our brothers in the NDC have no moral impetus at all to speak, especially in the presence of His Excellency Akufo-Addo’s government.

The NDC-Led government was the only regime in Ghana’s history where economic hardship was so unbearable for the youth that we have had to witness unions like the unemployed youth
association. In any serious country, this is the calibre of governments we should be holding night vigils, so God never put political power in the hands of such wicked officials ever again.

We must be able to remember a government that cancelled nurses and teacher trainee allowances, a government that left several year groups of nurses and teacher trainees unemployed, a government of dead goat syndrome, a government that was characterized by most gargantuan corruption of modern Ghanaian history and also, a government of Airbus scandals and ford car gifts.

His Excellency Nana Akufo-Addo on the contrary, has given us a million reasons as youth to give him four more years to do more for us as he has demonstrated a strong commitment to the growth and prosperity of the youth and the people of Ghana at large.

It is not an exaggeration to say that there has never been a president more committed, in action, to the welfare of the Ghanaian than Nana Akufo-Addo — at least in the fourth republic.

This is a president that has seen the potential in football and sports and has invested so much in constructing state of the art artificial turf popularly called ‘astro-turf’ strategically across the length and breadth of the country to facilitate talent development in the youth.

Through this initiative, Ghana should be looking at taking the number one position as the biggest exporter of footballers.
This is a president that has already employed more than 70, 000 nurses and more than 93,000 teachers who had previously been left to rot in the house by John Mahama.

These were mostly young graduates who had been reduced to nothing after their parents invested so much in their schooling. He did not stop there, he also made sure the teacher trainees’ and nurses’ allowances that were cancelled by Ex. President John Mahama are restored to alleviate burden on poor parents.
This is a president who under the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP) has ensured the training of over 20,000 youth under the student entrepreneurship initiative.

There is one appointment that has really changed a lot of things and it’s going to lift Ghana to a prosperous future. The appointment of Mr. Kingsley Agyemang is one that we the youth are so much grateful for. For the first time in the history of the scholarships in Ghana, there has been a decentralisation of award processes to bring more inclusiveness in accessing scholarships.

Through thoughtful initiative, hundreds and thousands are those who hitherto were marginalized in the scholarships award scheme are now comfortably studying both locally and abroad at zero cost. It will not come as a surprise in the future when Ghana start to export expertise in other fields not only nurses to other countries.

What Mr. Agyemang is doing at the scholarship’s secretariat needs to be commended because he is one of the reasons why the December 7th, 2020 elections are going to be won by the His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo and the NPP.
We the youth are not ungrateful, the scholarships secretariat under Mr. Agyemang pays our flight ticket which use to be a big hindrance for the brilliant but needy students.

This is also a president who did not stop there, but also went ahead to ensure the employment of over 80,000 youth under the forestry commission. Over 11,000 youth have also been given technical and vocational trainings. Some 1500 youth graduates have also been engaged under the green house business initiative while another 45,000 youth have been trained in agribusiness, commerce and ICT.

A presidential pitch initiative was also instituted where we saw 40 young people given financial support to grow their businesses.

Also, some 300 youth were given skills training in modern methods of aquaculture. Another 2700 Agric extension officers have so far been employed as well as over 1,000 environmental officers.
We cannot forget about the almighty NABCO, unprecedented! 100,000 youth employed under various capacities, all at a go. Neither can we forget about the thoughtful monthly allowances to the benefit of over 1,000 youth athletes.

Free SHS that others thought was impossible is now a reality. We remember when the NDC casted doubts over the feasibility of the Free SHS policy. In their feeble minds, “freebies” was an antidote for disaster in our educational system.

The first group of free SHS just graduated with their good performance silencing the doubting Thomases. Mediocrity will certainly not find a place when “The Men” are capable. Had God not delivered us from the mediocre hands of the NDC just like
He delivered the Israelites from the hands of the Egyptians, I wonder where Ghana would have been right now! President Nana Addo is our new Moses leading us to the promise land.
His Excellency Akufo-Addo has been tested inside out and so we the youth have no doubt that he is the man capable of taking us to the promise land. I mean, look at how he has managed and is still managing the novel coronavirus.

He is committed to bringing down youth unemployment rate further to insignificant degrees through making sure that every young graduate gets to live under dignified economic and social conditions ever possible.

After witnessing all of these policy interventions being rolled out to the benefit of us the youth, just in four years, we find it rather hard to trust the NDC as a party when all they did was side line us, created, looted and shared every available resource to the detriment of our future.

It is only a fool who will allow his testicles to be stepped on twice. It is only a fool that will be bold enough to go back to a debtor for new lending when he already defaulted paying a previous one.

The Venus flytrap ‘politricks’ of the NDC will not work on us the youth this time around. On any given day, oranges can never be synonymous with apples.

Again, as far as we the youth are concerned, His Excellency Nana is already the winner of the 2020 elections so he should reserve his energy for Four Years to Do More.
