Government Unveils 5G Internet to Transform Connectivity

The government has officially launched 5G high-speed internet in Accra today, November 1, 2024, marking a major step toward enhancing national connectivity.

NextGen Infraco, the company responsible for implementing this service, expressed readiness to help Ghana harness 5G technology to advance essential economic sectors for lasting growth. At the launch event, Tenu Awoonor, Managing Director of NextGen Infraco, emphasized the company’s commitment to ensuring that Ghana reaps economic benefits from this significant technological shift.

“With 5G, we can create a more inclusive society where no one in Ghana is left behind,” Awoonor said. “Whether a farmer in Tamale, a small business owner in Kumasi, or a student in Cape Coast, 5G will connect you to the world and open doors to new opportunities.”

Awoonor highlighted NextGen Infraco’s dedication to being an active player in Ghana’s digital future, stating that 5G is more than just a technological upgrade—it’s a catalyst for economic growth and empowerment for all Ghanaians. “This is just the beginning,” he remarked. “Together, we will leverage the power of 5G to build a stronger and more prosperous Ghana.”

Ghana’s move to adopt 5G is expected to boost mobile connectivity and expand digital access across the nation. NextGen Infraco, a partnership between the government of Ghana and seven other organizations—including Ascend Digital, K-NET, Radisys, Nokia, Tech Mahindra, and two telecom providers, AT Ghana and Telecel Ghana—leads this ambitious project.
