The Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) has successfully repossessed over 16 acres of strategic airport property from the McDan Group of Companies, following a recent court decision.
On May 6, 2025, the High Court in Accra granted GACL full re-entry and control over two land parcels near Kotoka International Airport (KIA), which had been under the control of McDan subsidiaries since 2012. The properties—one approximately 10.63 acres and the other 5.66 acres—are situated close to Action Chapel International, both adjacent to and opposite the church.
The court ruling follows legal action initiated by GACL in February 2025, when it filed a writ and a statement of claim against McDan Shipping Company and Airport Logistics Limited. GACL cited repeated violations of lease agreements and unpaid ground rent, amounting to $26,296, as grounds for reclaiming the land.
The court also issued a perpetual injunction to prevent the McDan Group from interfering with the lands. GACL pursued a summary judgment, arguing that the defendants lacked a legitimate defense. The court agreed, awarding all requested reliefs and ordering the defendants to pay GH¢50,000 in legal costs.
It’s worth noting that McDan Aviation’s activities at Terminal 1 of KIA had already been suspended in December 2024 due to unpaid debts. Although those financial issues were later settled, the matter regarding land occupation continued unresolved until this latest judgment.
Sources indicate that the McDan Group has since filed for a stay of execution while it prepares to appeal the ruling.
