The Electoral Commission (EC) has destroyed ballot papers with serialization errors initially meant for use in the Ahafo and Volta Regions.
The defective ballots were discarded on Thursday, November 21, under strict monitoring by police officers and representatives from various political parties to ensure transparency.
After identifying the errors, the EC immediately halted the transfer of the flawed papers. To address the issue, the Commission engaged Buck Press and Acts Commercials to reprint new ballots free of errors, ensuring the credibility of the electoral process remains intact.
The EC clarified that its internal quality control systems were responsible for detecting the issue, refuting claims that the discovery was made by political parties. However, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has maintained that its representatives were the ones who brought the defects to light, prompting corrective action.
This incident is part of the EC’s broader preparations for the 2024 general elections, emphasizing the importance of transparency and accuracy to preserve public confidence in the electoral process.
