The Minister for the Interior, Henry Quartey, has enforced a curfew on Sampa in the Jaman North District of the Bono Region through an Executive Instrument.
The curfew, effective from Thursday, October 24, 2024, restricts movement in Sampa between 10:00 pm and 6:00 am daily until further notice, according to a statement from the Interior Ministry.
This action follows a recommendation from the Bono Regional Security Council due to ongoing chieftaincy disputes in the area. The government has called on chiefs, community leaders, and residents, particularly the youth, to remain calm and seek peaceful solutions to their issues.
Additionally, a complete ban has been imposed on the possession of firearms, ammunition, and any other offensive weapons within Sampa. Authorities have warned that anyone found with such items will face arrest and prosecution.
