The President of the Republic, John Dramani Mahama, has been using a private jet which actually belongs to him for both his internal and external travels, contrary to what is out there, according to an insider.
The Bombardier CL-600-2B16 Challenger 604 Aircraft which is being used by President John Mahama does not belong to his brother, Ibrahim Mahama, as Ghanaians have been made to believe.
“I can tell you on authority that the Bombardier CL-600-2B16 Challenger 604 Aircraft, which Ghanaians have been told belongs to his brother, Ibrahim Mahama, actually belongs to the President” the insider revealed.
He further revealed that the plane is in the name of Ibrahim Mahama because of the reactions of Ghanaians if it comes out that the President actually owns the plane.
“The reason is simply that, Ghanaians will tear President Mahama apart if they knew he owns the plane. They will question the source of the money and that’ll not be good for his image” he stated.
So to avoid the situation where Ghanaians would take him to the cleaners, it was agreed that his business partner and brother, Ibrahim, should ‘own’ the plane on his behalf.
“If anybody tells you that the presidential jet is not in a good and safe condition to be used by the president, then that person is lying to you.
He also revealed that it costs the nation $17,000 per hour for the use of President Mahama’s plane, a phenomenon he said is worrying.
“What this means is that, we are not only being lied to about the ownership of the plane, but we are also paying for the usage of President Mahama’s private plane, a very worrying situation if you ask me” he added.
President John Dramani Mahama has been embarking on both local and foreign trips using the private plane under contention.
His use of the private plane has sparked widespread condemnations amongst Ghanaians on Twitter (X), Facebook and other messaging platforms.
