Benjamin Tetteh Seeks High Court Support for Speaker Bagbin’s Declaration of Four Vacant Seats

Businessman and concerned citizen Benjamin Yemoh Tetteh has taken legal action, petitioning the High Court to uphold Speaker Alban Bagbin’s declaration of four parliamentary seats as vacant.

In his writ, Tetteh requests that the High Court issue an injunction preventing the four MPs from identifying as members of parliament until a ruling is made on the case. The suit, filed on October 24, 2024, contends that Speaker Bagbin’s declaration is justified, arguing that the MPs’ submission of nomination forms to the Electoral Commission constitutes a voluntary vacation of their seats.

Additionally, Tetteh is seeking a permanent injunction to bar the four MPs from not only holding themselves out as parliamentarians but also from entering the parliamentary chamber.

The defendants in the case are Speaker Alban Bagbin, along with MPs Andrew Asiamah Adomako, Cynthia Mamle Morrison, Kwadwo Asante, and Peter Yaw Kwakye-Ackah.
