Let us establish one thing. In an ideal situation, why should anybody complain about the President of the Republic embarking on trips.
Moreover, if the President travels by air to other countries, there is absolutely nothing wrong with it. We cannot expect him to travel to any African country by road for many reasons.
President Mahama is going to Gambia with a private jet believed to belong to his brother, Ibrahim Mahama.
Felix Kwakye Ofosu has given reasons for the decision of the President to travel with a private plane. The reasons for the use of the private plane are not bad in themselves.
The real issue is that, when President Akufo-Addo was embarking on trips with private planes, all hell broke loose because he was accused of wasting our taxes to hire the planes.
He was questioned about why he wasn’t using the state’s own plane, the presidential jet for his foreign travels and engaged in wastage of our taxes.
When it was explained that the presidential jet was not in a pristine condition for such long distant trips, Okudzeto Ablakwa and his cohorts dismissed that point and still insisted that it ought to be used by the President.
So what has happened now? Is the plane no longer better to be used by President John Dramani Mahama? Where is Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa? What has become of his advocacy for the presidential plane to be used by President Mahama?
The very rod that Ablakwa and his blind followers used to judge President Akufo-Addo must also be used to judge His Excellency John Dramani Mahama.
Akufo-Addo would soon be accorded a sainthood looking at how he was bastardized for the same reasons Mahama is being given a green light for.
