Dear Prof. Godfred Bokpin!
You should apologize to Ghanaians for misleading us with your campaign to us to vote for President Mahama and his NDC.
I have read a story attributed to you on myjoyonline that you have stated that the new government will not be able to fulfil its promises to Ghanaians under the current International Monetary Fund (IMF) programme that the country is committed to.
You believe that the NDC knows very well that, despite their manifesto, their promises, to meet the aspirations of Ghanaians, and the election victory they secured, there is no way they will be able to deliver on their mandate under the existing IMF-supported programme.
You are on record to have emphasized that If this is lost on them, then they have a long way to go, referring to the John Mahama-led government on Joy FM’s SMS on Tuesday, January 14.
You explained further that the IMF programme comes with certain conditions, and these agreements may not align with the new government’s goals and promises.
You added, “If you look at the IMF programme, by design and structure, it will constrain this government from delivering on its mandate.”
Prof, I find this statement attributed to you to be a departure from the assurances you and your cohorts gave to Ghanaians when you advised us to entrust President Mahama with the country.
You called on us to choose ‘Reset’ over ‘Upgrade’ since, in your belief, the reset group had what the country needed to change things with respect to the economy.
The peculiarly sardonic and sententious manner in which you invited Ghanaians to join you and some of your friends in academia to support the NDC during the electioneering campaign, is completely worlds apart from the despairing picture you are giving to us.
You are giving us excuses about why we should expect the NDC may fail in managing the economy. Prof, Ghanaians will not accept this new position of yours.
Are you saying that you had no idea about the terms and conditions of Ghana’s pact with the IMF before you asked us to support the NDC for our economic freedom?
Prof. Bokpin, are you not running away from the very assurances and hope you gave to us? You knew about Ghana’s program with the IMF yet you called on us to support the NDC in the elections.
Why did you ask us to support the NDC knowing very well that they couldn’t fulfill their manifesto promises to us if given power? You have misled all those who voted for President Mahama based on your campaign for him. Apologize to us for asking us to vote for President Mahama.
