President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has called on Ghanaians, especially young people, to adopt responsible use of 5G technology to support, rather than hinder, the country’s digital advancement. Speaking at the launch of Ghana’s high-speed 5G internet on Thursday, November 1, 2024, in Accra, he emphasized the importance of maintaining focus on digital security.
The 5G service, developed by NextGen Infraco, is intended to strengthen key sectors of the economy and foster sustainable growth. However, President Akufo-Addo cautioned that while 5G brings significant opportunities, it must not become a source of cybersecurity or data privacy issues.
He urged both users and regulatory bodies to stay vigilant against digital threats, reinforcing that 5G should contribute constructively to Ghana’s future. “The path forward calls for caution and responsibility. 5G is a transformative force for shaping Ghana’s future, and with its potential comes a duty to use it wisely,” he noted.
Addressing concerns around data privacy and cybersecurity, the president emphasized the need for responsible use to ensure that 5G promotes unity across the country. He added, “Our youth stand to benefit immensely from this digital age, but we must manage it carefully to maximize its positive impact.”
